4. Duration. We stipulate in our draft for ten years

for whole treaty. Chinese will doubtless strongly object

or at any rate refuse to agree to so long a period for

certain special arrangements such as any areas that may be

reserved (e.g. Shanghai, Tientsin otc.), special Chanters

and legal counsellors. What should be my line?
